Sydney Airport: Pick up and Drop off Areas to be Aware of

Navigating Sydney airport can seem like a challenge at first as it is the biggest airport in the country. But, thankfully, it is very well organised. It also has free Wi-Fi and an abundance of entertainment, dining and retail options. The airport itself consists of three terminals: one international terminal and two domestic terminals. The international terminal has an express pick up section in the P9 car park; there are yellow signs to help you find it. Here, you can get up to fifteen minutes of waiting time for free. For drop off space, simply go to the departure level at T1 international. Here, there are kerbside spaces including some for disabled passengers.

In the domestic terminals, due to the larger volume of passengers, your options are a bit different. There is a drop-off area at the departure level of both terminals, as well as:

  • Express pick up in the section marked by yellow signs. This is an eight-minute walk from the terminals, which makes it the second closest parking space.
  • Priority pick in the section marked by green signs. This is a four-minute walk from the terminals, which makes it the closest parking space. Although it is the most convenient, you do need an e-Tag to pay the fee. Prices begin at $4.
  • Blue emu pick up in the section marked by blue emu signs. This is a little further from the terminals, but there is a shuttle bus that leaves every ten to fifteen minutes. The bus takes passengers between the terminals and blue emu pick up section.

Other Transport Options

Sydney Airport to Sydney CBD: Your Transport Options

There is no shortage of options when it comes to transport between Sydney airport and city. However, when it comes to comfort, convenience and value for money, none can compete with Hughes. At Hughes, we offer door-to-door service and a range of premium and luxury vehicles. We can also cater for everyone from individuals, to large groups.

Sydney Airport Trains

There is an excellent train service that runs to and from Sydney airport. You can catch this service from the domestic or international terminals—it leaves from platform one at both stations. There are several points within the city at which the airport train stops including Museum, Central, St James, Circular Quay, Wynyard and Town Hall. However, despite its good coverage, the train still does not offer door-to-door service. This means you will need to find your way to and from the train station, which can be hard with luggage. The cost of the train can also become quite high if you are travelling in a group. In fact, for groups of 3-4, it can be cheaper to travel with Hughes.

Taxi From Sydney Airport to CBD

There are taxi ranks at the international and domestic terminals of Sydney airport. This means that getting a cab is quite easy. These taxi ranks are sheltered and come with supervisors to maintain an orderly rank. Although taxis offer door-to-door service, the price does not always reflect the service you get. In addition to this, peak travel times can cause an influx of passengers at the taxi ranks. As a result, you may find yourself waiting a while. Again, in a group of 3-4, Hughes is often the more cost effective and comfortable option. Sure, a taxi may save you up to 20% on your fare, but you don’t get the benefit of beating the queue and enjoying luxurious comfort and excellent service.

Buses and Shuttles

There are always buses running to and from the Sydney airport, in the international and domestic precincts. The bus stops are clearly marked as well, so finding them should not be an issue. In addition to this, there are several shuttle services, including Redy2Go shuttles. Taking the bus is generally your cheapest option. However, it lacks in comfort and convenience. Travelling in a group of 5-6 is a logistical nightmare on the bus and the price of each person’s fare can also add up. Booking with Hughes can actually be the cheaper option. We have people movers and shuttle buses for large groups, and you get the advantage of a chauffeur driver and door-to-door service. It will also save you time, as we will not be stopping for other passengers.

#1 I am travelling with a lot of luggage – will you be able to fit it all in your cars?

At Hughes, we are prepared to meet anyone’s travelling needs. Our range of vehicles includes luxury people movers, shuttles and even coaches. This means that we are able to not only cater for a lot of passengers but also a lot of luggage. Simply let us know of your needs when you make a booking, and we will ensure that your needs are met.

#2 If I am arriving on a late night flight, can you still get me from Sydney airport to city?

At Hughes, we understand that airports often operate late at night or early in the morning. That is why we operate twenty-four hours a day. Simply book an airport transfer when you need it and we will be there when you arrive.

#3 I am trying to travel on a budget – do you have options for me?

We understand that air travel can be expensive. That is why we maintain the most affordable rates possible. In many cases, travelling with Hughes is actually cheaper than alternative transport services. We also have a variety of premium and luxury vehicles to suit different budgets.

#4 I am travelling on a very strict schedule – is your service the quickest?

Hughes offers door-to-door service, which means that you are getting the most direct transport possible. Our chauffeurs are well acquainted with Sydney’s roads and they will take you to your destination promptly, via the most direct route.
