Perth Airport is an international airport located 10 kilometres east of Perth’s city centre. Travelling from Perth Airport to Margaret River takes around three and half hours. Journey travel times

The standard travel time from Perth Airport to Margaret River is three and a half hours. Travel times during Peak hour tends to take around four hours, and off-peak travel times can be as short as three hours.

Arriving and departing from Perth airport: what you need to know

Perth Airport has four passenger terminals for both domestic and international flights: Terminal 1 which mainly serves international flights and is home to airline lounges for Emirates, Qantas, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Airlines (all on level 2); Terminal 2 which only deals with domestic flights; and Terminals 3 and 4 which welcome Australia’s own Qantas and Jetstar.

Depending on the time you will spend at this airport, there are different parking options available. Whether it’s Long-Term Parking, available in all four terminals; Short Term Parking also at all four terminals; Fast Track Business Parking for Terminals 3 and 4 or Regional Term Parking, for those travelling with airlines such as Cobham or Skippers. Additionally, there is an outdoor long-term car park which is only a 5-minute bus ride with the free shuttle bus service, or a 10-minute walk to the terminal. At Terminal 2, there is a five-minute Express Pickup and Drop Off area, and if you need to wait longer there is one-hour free parking at any of the Long-Term Car Parks. There are also bays at each terminal for immediate pickup or drop-off.

Perth Airport offers free Wi-Fi to anyone in public areas and gate lounges as well as excellent facilities all over the airport. You can find pharmacies, ATMs, foreign exchange, restaurants, cafes, bars, postal services, and even print and copy shops (get more info on shopping here). If you have had a rough flight and need sleep, head to the sleeping pods in Terminal 1, which can be booked by the hour. On the other hand, if you want to experience the close-up thrill of watching planes land and take off, head to the observation deck on level 3 in Terminal 1.

If you’re travelling with children and need a break from parenting, take your little ones to the children’s play area on level 2 departures at Terminal 1 where there are games for children of all ages and seats for the adults to keep a close eye on them.

Exploring Margaret River

Margaret River is a town in Western Australia located 277 kilometres south of Perth, in the valley of the eponymous Margaret River. The surrounding area is known for its wine region, attracting more than half a million visitors yearly.

Margaret River’s climate is similar to Bordeaux’s in France, and just like Bordeaux, is home to great wine. There are about 215 wineries in the region as well as boutique-sized wine producers. Additionally, the town offers several hundred caves within Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, with six of those open to the public.

Margaret River is also known for its beaches and hot surf spots. There is a yearly surfing competition held at Margaret River as part of one of the World Surf League’s (WSL) main events. This creates important tourism for the region, attracting professional surfers from around the world. In fact, Margaret River attracts over 2 million visitors each year for its art, wine, surf, and quality cuisine.
