Getting from the airport to Tweed Heads

Since the airport is only 4 km from Tweed Heads, it is a relatively short journey. On average it takes around 10 minutes – however, during peak hours it can take slightly longer.

Peak Hour Travel Time:

  • Tweed Heads to airport – 14 minutes

Navigating Gold Coast airport

Gold Coast airport is located at the southern end with 1 main passenger terminal servicing both domestic and international flights. The airlines operating from the airport include Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, Air Asia X and Scoot.

The airport has ample parking which includes 4 main parking options:

  • Premium Covered Parking – This is the closest parking option to the terminal (30-second walk) and is fully covered. It also has disabled parking spaces.
  • Short Term Terminal Parking – This is the best option if you want to park under 8 hours. There are cash/credit card pay stations as well as disable parking spaces.
  • Long Term Terminal Parking – This parking option can be booked online at discounted prices. It is a 1-2 minute walk from the terminal and also has disabled parking spaces.
  • Budget Parking – Has the option of covered and uncovered parking spaces. You will find cash/credit card pay stations for convenience.

Pickup and drop off zones are located at the front of the main terminal. There is no ‘park & wait’ option in these zones and passengers must be ready for immediate pick-up & drop off (fines apply).

The airport has excellent transit facilities including a range of shopping and dining options. These include a pharmacy, cafes, restaurants, retail outlets as well as a tax & duty-free shopping experience.

Tweed Heads – Things To Do

Tweed Heads is a town whose economy is heavily based on tourism. One of the most popular destinations in Tweed Heads is Mount Warning – one of the largest shield volcanoes in the southern hemisphere. There are a host of other activities including whale watching from Point Danger, rainforest eco cruises, trapping mud crabs and exploring Duranbah beach. Rich volcanic soil also means that Tweed Heads has exceptional local produce and amazing seafood (being close to the coast.
