$Money data type

Hello everyone,

I cannot find any documentation/examples on the $MONEY data type and have
several questions.

Using an input form with a field declared as $MONEY is it possible for the
user to input the currency sign ($) ?
What about commas ($100,000)?

Or is it suggested to force the user to just enter a "pure" integer OR let
them enter it in any style then manipulate the value to get it the way you
want?

I'm using version 2.0.4.1 on Pentium Dual Pro machines running Apache 1.34
over Linux 2.0.
