I could have *sworn* that it affected "real" fields too but I have not
made it fail today using them. Thanks again.

I remember reporting this problem a long time ago. I didn't receive any solutions.
So I guess I'm seconding the question: is there any news on this issue?
In the system i'm developing, I included a loop that checks if the msql connect was successful. If it wasn't, the routine sleeps for a second or two, then it re-attempts the connection. This loop keeps trying 10 times.
