We have moved from version 1.x to 2.0.3 and we trying to improve the
performance of our database. Even though we have created individual INDEXes
for 5 searchable fields in a table that has 20 fields, it still takes up to
1:40 seconds to find the result. The database has only 330,000 rows.
When searching by the City field, the cities in the end of alphabet (e.g.
New York) take as much as 2 times longer than the cities in the beginning
of alphabet (e.g. Albuquerque). Is there a sequential search on the INDEXes?
I have read some claims in the Archives that people are very satisfied with
the performance of mSQL. Is there a trick or a proper sequence to maximize
the performance? Or performance is a relative word and 1 minute and 40
seconds is acceptable for some users? I would think in case of a average
web-user, they start clicking on the reload after a few seconds.
We are using Linux-2.0.27-i586 (Red Hat) on a Pentium 200 with 72MB of RAM.
Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
