Subject: [mSQL] Non root user msqld& problem on SGI IRIX 6.2

Configuration near end

Is it important to have msql installed so the daemon can run?
I have installed msql on my system as user brian. When I first installed it
I left the prompt at the default for the question.
Directory for PID file? [/var/adm]

When I fired up the msql daemon with the command

$ /usr/dom/xbrie/brian/Minerva/bin/msqld&

 I received the message

mSQL Server 1.0.16 starting ...

Couldn't open PID file: Permission denied
Warning : Couldn't open ACL file: No such file or directory
Without an ACL file global access is Read/Write

Since I can't install msql as root user I went back to the faq and I
discovered I have to make the PID directory one where I have read/write
access. I reinstalled msql with /var/tmp as the PID directory. Now when I
start the daemon
$ /usr/dom/xbrie/brian/Minerva/bin/msqld&

 I get the message

mSQL Server 1.0.16 starting ...

Can't start server : IP Bind : Address already in use

My guess is I have to have the daemon running if I later desire to access
the database with my web server. How do I correct this problem and is it
important?

Brian
