Subject: [mSQL] "Error: Can't get hostname for your address"?

Hello,

I am trying to connect to an msql daemon running on openmatrix.com
(208.139.3.17). This is a P200 machine running FreeBSD 2.2 with mSQL 2.0
beta 4. Here is output from "msqladmin version":

openmatrix.com# msqladmin version

Version Details :-

        msqladmin version 2.0 Beta 4
mSQL server version 2.0 Beta 4
        mSQL protocol version 22
mSQL connection Localhost via UNIX socket
        Target platform FreeBSD-2.1.0-RELEASE-i386

Configuration Details :-

        Default config file /usr/local/Hughes/msql.conf
        TCP socket 1114
        UNIX socket /usr/local/Hughes/msql2.sock
        mSQL user msql
        Admin user root
        Install directory /usr/local/Hughes
        PID file location /usr/local/Hughes/msql2d.pid

The machine I am running is a Sun Sparcstation running Solaris 2.5.1 with
mSQL 2.0 beta 4. Here is output from "msqladmin version" on the Sparc
(silkspin.com):

silkspin.com# msqladmin version

Version Details :-

        msqladmin version 2.0 Beta 4
mSQL server version 2.0 Beta 4
        mSQL protocol version 22
mSQL connection Localhost via UNIX socket
        Target platform Solaris-2.5.1-Sparc

Configuration Details :-

        Default config file /usr/local/Hughes/msql.conf
        TCP socket 1114
        UNIX socket /usr/local/Hughes/msql2.sock
        mSQL user msql
        Admin user root
        Install directory /usr/local/Hughes
        PID file location /usr/local/Hughes/msql2d.pid

I keep getting the error "Can't get hostname for your address" when I try
to connect to openmatrix.com from silkspin.com -- this happens from CGI
scripts and from telnet. Here are two telnet sessions where I try to
connect using msqldump to get the contents of the database on the remote
machine:

silkspin.com# msqldump -h "openmatrix.com" -v betsy
#
# mSQL Dump (requires mSQL 2.0 or better)
#
# Host: openmatrix.com Database: betsy
#--------------------------------------------------------

Connecting to openmatrix.com...
mSQL error: Can't get hostname for your address

And here it is again when I try the exact IP address of openmatrix.com:

silkspin.com# msqldump -h "208.139.3.17" -v betsy
#
# mSQL Dump (requires mSQL 2.0 or better)
#
# Host: 208.139.3.17 Database: betsy
#--------------------------------------------------------

Connecting to 208.139.3.17...
mSQL error: Can't get hostname for your address

I cannot imagine why I would be getting this error! I have set the msql.acl
to give everyone read access to betsy, and accept connections from any
host, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Ross
