Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I want, in generic terms, is to
allow a web page to access a small database at runtime only. That is, I
don't need a demon running constantly. It's just not big enough to need
that kind of power. Right now my CGI program accesses flat files to
accomplish this task. I would like to add the functionality of being able
to do queries and updates SQL or some other API rather than just scanning
a text file.

I don't think I am trying to "cheat" my ISP in doing this any more than I
am doing so right now by writing my own HTML instead of hiring them as
consultants to do it. In other words, I don't want to have mSQL running as
another process in addition to theirs. I simply want access to mSQL as
code linked into my program and runs in the same code space as my CGI
program.

Does that help, or do you still think my question is in bad taste?

Later,

Ben
