Maybe so, but what about the users who don't have java or javascript
browsers, or that have one, but have it turned off? Though it may not
be as server efficient, server side CGI still is the only way to reach
everyone without several versions of your site... one for Netscape, one
for Microsoft, one for neither... I don't like it either, but I frankly
don't have the time to spend on more than one version of my site. My
site lacks too much as it is, because of lack of time.

Very true, it is easier and for many it will suffice, but there is *so
much* that PHP does, and I'm very thrilled with it.
