Subject: [mSQL] Server gone away (oh no, not AGAIN !)
Date: Wed, 4 Sep 1996 08:50:46 +0200

Hi again

I THINK I have a little more info on the "server gone away" problem now.
After my application has got this message, and refuses to continue with
any more queries, the msqld is still operational from the monitor prompt.

I tried to restart the msqld but it does not help a bit. So my conclusion
is
that the problem is in the library code, libmsql.a (yes, the messages does
originate from there).

The question is, WHY does it happen. I suspect that an invalid query could
in some way corrupt the buffers or something else in the communication
with the server, but I doubt that the problem is in the msqld itself.

Where do I start ? I HAVE set the MINERVA_DEBUG env variable, and the
logfile says "enabled for QUERIES and MALLOC", but the logfile contains
NO debug printfs at all !.

So, how do I proceed to find the problem in libmsql (if it's there). One
start
could be to eliminate all possibilty for a bad query ;-), but it's hard to
do
since the application allows the user to enter an arbitrary query...

Grateful for any pointers or ideas

Anders
