Date: Wed, 4 Sep 1996 15:02:42 +0900 (JST) From: bonsai@net5.co.jp Message-Id: <199609040602.PAA24068@sun1.net5.co.jp> Subject: Re: [mSQL] Opinions? Best msql web interfaceW3-mSQL is nice, you can get a simple, but functional, interface up and running
with little effort. But as with most tools that claim to take the hard work
out of coding W3-mSQL also takes out the flexibility.
The major limitation I have hit is that there is no way to perform operations
on the data between the WWW page and the Database using w3-mSQL itself.
For example, in order to store Japanese text in mSQL I have to convert it from
one of 3 popular encoding schemes to EUC (the only japanese character code
supported to mSQL) using w3-mSQL alone this is impossible. Therefore I have
chosen a perl/mSQL interface, which I am entirely happy with.
I think if you are comfortable with a language such as perl, java, C or any
other that has a mSQL interface then you are better off sticking with that,
you'll appreciate the flexibility.
Having said that, keep in mind that we (at least I) haven't seen the next
release of w3-mSQL which promises to be much improved.

Note to David: Now I've determined I can store Japanese charactersets in mSQL
I'll be encouraging my employer to register.
